Members of the medical board, police officials, a magistrate, the police surgeon, the head of the identification project, Mir Raza’s family members, and his lawyer Jibran Nasir were present during the exhumation.
According to officials, the medical board collected necessary samples from the grave for forensic examination. A DNA sample will also be obtained from Mir Raza’s remains to assist with identification and the investigation of other key aspects of the case.
Sources said the medical board has also decided to collect DNA samples from Mir Raza’s father and mother. The samples will be compared with DNA obtained from Mir Raza’s remains, which is expected to help investigators establish important forensic evidence.
Officials said the various samples collected during the exhumation will undergo detailed medical and forensic analysis. Experts on the medical board will also examine the remains independently to gather further information about the possible cause of death, identity, and any other relevant evidence.
A heavy police contingent was deployed at the cemetery during the procedure, while special security arrangements were made in the surrounding area. Police and administration officials restricted the movement of unauthorized individuals during the operation.
Mir Raza’s family had previously expressed reservations about the composition and procedure of the medical board. The family had initially rejected a five-member medical board, following which the government restored the previous medical board.
The forensic samples and DNA reports obtained following the exhumation could prove to be an important development in the investigation. The medical and forensic reports are expected to help clarify further facts surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
