On Pakistan’s behalf, Additional Secretary for Arms Control and Disarmament Tahir Hussain Andrabi is presiding over the conference’s meetings.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan holds the final presidency of the conference’s 2026 session and will therefore oversee the conclusion of its proceedings for the year.

During its presidency, Pakistan will lead negotiations on the conference’s annual report and the corresponding resolution to be presented before the First Committee of the UN General Assembly.

Ambassador Andrabi has also chaired a meeting of the conference’s previous presidents for the 2026 session and held consultations with representatives of regional groups.

The Conference on Disarmament is the world’s principal multilateral forum for negotiating disarmament and arms-control treaties.

Based at the United Nations Office in Geneva, the conference comprises 65 member states, including all nuclear-armed states.

Its agenda includes preventing a nuclear arms race, averting nuclear war and preventing the weaponisation of outer space, among other issues.

The conference and its predecessor bodies have negotiated several major international security agreements, including the Biological Weapons Convention, the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

Pakistan’s presidency places Islamabad at the centre of international discussions on arms control, nuclear disarmament and global peace and security.
