Munir was briefed on the prevailing security situation in the province, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management measures and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in KP.
The field marshal commended the high morale, readiness and professionalism of officers and troops, and acknowledged their commitment to protecting the country and its people.
He directed the formations to remain vigilant and maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness, ISPR said.
Munir said the armed forces, with the support of the nation, remained committed to countering terrorism and maintaining peace and stability across the country.
During the visit, he also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha in memory of those who died defending the country and fighting terrorism. He said their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
The field marshal was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps upon arrival at the headquarters.
His visit comes days after a deadly attack on the old Police Lines in Kohat, where an explosives-laden vehicle detonated near a mosque during Friday prayers before militants stormed the compound. The attack and ensuing fighting killed 23 people, including 17 police officials, while more than 100 were injured, according to police and Counter-Terrorism Department officials.
Police and security forces subsequently launched an overnight clearance operation inside the Police Lines. Elite Force commandos, CTD teams and other security personnel cleared key sections of the compound, killing all eight militants involved in the assault.
The development also comes amid a wider surge in militant violence in KP. The Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) recorded 774 violence-linked fatalities across Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026, with KP and Balochistan accounting for almost 96% of the total. KP recorded 475 fatalities and 151 violent incidents, while Balochistan reported 265 fatalities and 94 incidents.
CRSS said KP's violence-linked fatalities increased by nearly 53% compared with the previous quarter, when the province recorded 311 deaths. It identified KP and Balochistan as the country's main violence hotspots during the period.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghanistan's Taliban government to prevent its territory from being used by militants for attacks against Pakistan, while Islamabad has continued counterterrorism operations in KP and Balochistan.
